Medical Facts

High incidence of cervical cancer in under developed countries was due to a variety of factors including

  • low marriage age

  • multiple sex partners

  • multiple pregnancies

  • lack of hygiene

  • presence of human pappiloma virus.

Early screening has helped bring down cervical cancer incidence in the USA, which was around about eight per 100,000 population. Screening helps in detecting pre-cancer lesions and same should be done everywhere to bring down the incidence of cervical cancer.

At least 30 per cent of all cancers are attributed to smoking and called for abstaining from tobacco. There should be greater intake of vegetables and decrease in the consumption of fat, especially animal meat. However, fat from fish is beneficial.
