A new study from Germany suggests that omega-3 fatty acids
found in fish oil appear to be effective in stopping the
growth of colon
cancer cells.
Omega-3 fatty acids already have been proven to have
heart-healthy benefits and some studies have shown they
also may be effective in fighting cancer of the breast,
pancreas and prostate.
Researchers at J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt,
Germany, who exposed two types of colon cancer cells to
omega-3 fatty acids, say the fatty acids blocked an
aggressive type of colon cancer within 72 hours of
exposure.
The researchers, who reported on their findings last week
at an international conference of digestive tract
specialists in Orlando, say more study is needed to
confirm
these findings.
