New method of Gene Mapping

BRITAIN'S Glaxo Wellcome has succeeded in identifying genes that could be linked to thee common diseases like Migrane, Diabetes and Psoriasis ( a skin disease).

The the vice-president of the company and worldwide director of the genetics, Dr. Allen Roses, told a conference in San Francisco that it had achieved this by using a gene maping technology to track down the disease causing genes.

Dr. Roses said that the technology known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP), could now narrow the search for susceptibility genes to a small region containing one to eight genes within relatively large region of DNA known to be linked to a particular disease.

This would help the scientists to discover more rapidly which genes cause people to develop diseases.
