Olive Oil for High Blood Pressure?

A study from Italy, a major producer of olive oil, says some patients were able to completely eliminate the need for their high blood pressure drugs and control their condition by following a diet rich in the oil.

While on the olive oil, study participants were able to reduce their daily dose of high blood pressure medication by 48 percent compared to only a 4 percent reduction while on the sunflower oil diet.
Researchers say olive oil contains potent antioxidants called polyphenols that are not found in sunflower oil.Olive oil is technically a fruit, It's juice from the olive and we know diets high in fruits and vegetables have a blood pressure lowering effect. Antioxidants are believed to help dilate arteries, therefore improving blood flow.
The study is published in the March 27 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.
