New Birth Control Patch for Women July 04, 2002 A birth control patch for women has been produced and approved by the Food and Drug Administration US. The patch called Ortho Evra, is manufactured by Johnson & Johnson unit Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc. It is to be worn continuously for a week before it has to be replaced. It can be worn on the buttocks, abdomen or upper body. It is a 2 inch patch which delivers slow stream of hormones through the skin. Women change the patch once a week for three weeks and then go patch free for a week during which they have the menstrual period. This contraceptive device would be available from the first half of the next year.
