There are two types of obesity. Apple
shape - whom excess weight is distributed
centrally - have higher risk of diabetes and
cardiovascular diseases. Pear shape -
whom excess fat is of peripheral distrbution i.e. hips.
Apple-shaped bodies and chubby cheeks go together - and
they indicate a higher risk for metabolic complications
of obesity.Mayo Clinic
researchers say they studied cheek (buccal), visceral and
abdominal subcutaneous fat on 25 patients who underwent
CT scans of their head and abdomen for various reasons
over a two-week period.
The results indicated that people with chubby
cheeks are more likely to have higher amounts of visceral
fat and possible complications because of it -
than other people. This knowledge could be more helpful
in determining who is at risk for metabolic complications
of obesity than just looking at the degree of overweight.
