Clinical AID in an adult is defined as an individual who has been identified as meeting the two criteria A & B below:
- Positive test for HIV infection by 2 tests preferably on two separate antigens.
- Any one of the following criteria:
- Weight loss of 10% of body weight or cachexia, which is not due to a condition unrelated to HIV.
- Chronic diarrhea of one month duration, intermittent or constant.
- Disseminated , miliarry or extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
- Candidiasis of the esophagus, diagnosable as dysphagia, odynophagia and oral candidiasis.
- Neurological impairment restricting daily activity, not known to be due to a condition unrelated to HIV (e.g. trauma)
- Kaposi sarcoma
