One of the world's widest studies into the reasons for heart attacks has identified nine risk factors.

Smoking, stress and cholesterol tops the list.

Those with high lipid in the blood or smoke account for 60% of all heart attacks.

Stress accounts for more than one fifth of all heart attacks.

Healing Powers of Sex

Sex is good for your health. This is the  conclusion that the scientists are coming to. Well, it could be the exercise part of the sexual act that may be the reason behind this benefit. But apart from the exercise some other cause may also be the contributing factor.
Recent study suggests suggests that men who have sex at least three times a week cut their risk of a heart attack in half.
Research has shown that even walking briskly for 20 minutes at least three times a week can help ward off  cardiovascular crises.
A great deal of research points to the benefits of social interaction and social support in helping heart health. While many different types of relationships may be supportive, the relationship with a partner is certainly likely to be very close. This close relationship most likely is a major factor that gives benefit to a person from sexual activity.

Promiscuity isn't likely to have such health benefits. Japanese scientists recently found out that  people engaging in adulterous relations were more susceptible to fatal strokes. This further goes to prove that its not the sexual act as such that contributes to the heath benefit to a person.

It can be safely assumed that a loving and sexually fulfilling relationship gives maximum benefit to a person.

  • Men with the desire for frequent sexual activity and who are able to engage in it are likely to be healthier.
  • A study at the National Cancer Institute in the US showed men who ejaculated through sex or masturbation at least five times a week were much less likely to get prostate cancer.
  • And sex once or twice a week in winter can boost the immune system and reduce the chances of catching colds and flu, according to researchers at Wilkes University, Pennsylvania. They found it boosted levels of immunoglobulin A or IGA which binds to organisms that invade the body and then activates the immune system to destroy them.
  • Regular sex can even boost a woman’s sense of smell by triggering the release of a hormone called prolactin, according to scientists at Calgary University in Canada.
  • For lower blood pressure: Aerobic exercise is generally good for lowering blood pressure, and sex itself may give this effect. Orgasm in women stimulates the release of the hormone oxytocin, which has a direct effect on lowering blood pressure.
  • Stress reduction: There are many reasons why people have sex, including relaxation. Chilling out is good for your heart because stress hormones constrict your blood vessels and speed up your heart rate, increasing your risk for heart attack.
  • Emotional health. Regular sex as part of a supportive emotional relationship is especially good for your heart. Studies show that emotional issues like stress, anger, anxiety, and loneliness contribute to heart attack risk much like smoking and high cholesterol do.
